Just in time for the holidays, the South Carolina Ballet presents Savannah’s favorite family holiday tradition of Nutcracker. This award-winning production is South Carolina’s longest running single performing arts event and guarantees to be loved by the whole family. This one professional performance will take place on Saturday, November 28 at the Savannah Civic Center.
Artistic Director William Starrett’s award-winning choreography has been combined with a cast of more than 120 dancers, new costumes and magical special effects. The company’s 35 professional dancers will share the stage with over 60 local children, ages 4 to 18. The holiday classic tells the story of young Clara, who is taken on a magical journey with her beloved Nutcracker Prince. First performed in 1892 in St. Petersburg, the American version began in 1940 in New York City. George Balanchine, the famed founder of our current New York City Ballet, was the company’s ballet master and choreographer of Nutcracker. South Carolina Ballet’s Nutcracker is based on this famed production and is made unique with a bow to our Southern roots. “The Russian Licorice Whip dance alone will blow you away. I can’t wait for the audience to get to experience this year’s tremendous production,” proclaims William Starrett.
The professional production of Nutcracker will be presented at the Savannah Civic Center in the heart of Savannah’s Historic District on Saturday, Nov. 28 at 5:30 p.m. for one night only! Tickets can be purchased at the Savannah Civic Center Box Office, online at www.savannahcivic.com, or by calling (912) 651-6556, or toll-free at (800) 351-7469.
