The Savannah Music Festival is dedicated to presenting a world-class celebration of the musical arts by creating timeless and adventurous productions that stimulate arts education, foster economic growth, and unite artists and audiences in Savannah. It is the largest musical arts event in Georgia and one of the most distinctive cross-genre music festivals in the world.
A favorite event of SMF patrons, Piano Showdown features a pair of 9-foot Steinways and four jazz pianists with expansive repertoires and a spontaneous approach to the music. This year’s program brings together SMF Associate Artistic Director Marcus Roberts and festival favorite Aaron Diehl alongside the soulful Cyrus Chestnut and the 24-yearold Christian Sands. Raised playing piano in their respective churches, both Mr. Chestnut and Mr. Roberts employ the power of gospel music in tandem with an elegant jazz sensibility that only comes by having been around 50 years. Mr. Diehl and Mr. Sands are jazz wunderkinds proving that the jazz tradition remains alive and well. Don’t miss this exciting program featuring solos, duets and piano eight hands!
