Savannah Recycles

On Thursday, November 15, 2018, Savannah State University’s (SSU) Environmental Science Club and the City of Savannah will be pairing up to host a recycling day event. Ambassadors will be set up in front of Tiger Arena on SSU’s campus from 9am-3pm. Residents are encouraged to bring paper, plastic and glass items and also cooking grease to be recycled. Recycling is the act of turning waste into reusable material in order to benefit the community and the environment. According to De’Anna Franklin, the environmental compliance inspector for the City of Savannah, “recycling saves energy, conserves natural resources, and prevents pollution.” She also stated that “the amount of used cooking oil being poured down drains causes overflows, pollutes the Savannah River and can eventually affect the health of Savannah residents.” In efforts to keep Savannah clean and beautiful, residents are asked to bring any recyclable items they have to Savannah State University during the allotted time.
