Savannah Native Named Atlanta’s Fire Marshal

The City of Atlanta Fire & Rescue Department recently named Savannah native, Alan Bernard Burton, Sr. its Fire Marshall.

In this position, Chief Burton oversees Arson Investigations, City of Atlanta Inspections, as well as Inspections for the world’s busiest airport, Hartsfield Jackson International. In addition, he headsup the Atlanta Department of Community Affairs and Department of Community Emergency Response.

Chief Burton is a 20 years veteran of the Atlanta Fire & Rescue Department, where he rose through the ranks of Firefighter to Assistant Chief. He has earned a host of certifications and has been featured in the National Fire Protection Association publication. Chief Burton completed his Master’s Degree at Columbus State University and is currently attending the National Fire Academy, where he is completing the Executive Fire Officer’s Program. Chief Burton is a graduate of Savannah State University and Windsor Forrest High School. He is the son of Mitchell and Elnora Burton. Chief Burton is married to Larcenia Michelle (Williams) Burton and they are the parents of two sons.
