Savannah Fire & Emergency Services welcomed 29 new recruits to the fire academy this week.

The new recruits will spend the next 15 weeks under the tutelage of veteran Savannah firefighters at the SFES training facility on Agonic Rd. learning what it takes to become a Savannah firefighter. The comprehensive training schedule follows National Fire Protection Association standards. Upon completion of the demanding academy training, the recruits will achieve nationally recognized certification as “Firefighter II”. They will also earn additional certifications including Hazmat Operations, Vehicle Extrication, Technical Rescue and First Responder.

The recruits are scheduled to graduate the academy the first of February 2013.
