Savannah Community Mourns The Loss Of Pastor Greg Tyson, Sr.


 
 

First Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church announced the sudden death of their Pastor of 12 years, Gregory Tyson Sr, Sunday morning, February 22, 2015.

Tyson was born on November 30, 1968 to Evalena and Lewis Tyson in Savannah, Ga. He attended the public schools and was a 1986 graduate of Windsor Forest High School. Tyson was an entrepreneur with a vision. He attended Savannah State University and was a graduate of Savannah Technical College with a degree in Cosmetology.

He spent several years mastering his craft as a Barber before opening one of Savannah’s largest barber shops, Boys II Men. “He owned Boys II Men barber shop on Bull Street where he came in contact with many people and made many people look good,” said J. Vernard Flowers. “He loved people, that was just him.”

Tyson accepted Christ at an early age and received his call to pastor the First Jerusalem Baptist Church in 2003.

Tyson is being remembered as a humble man of God, who was also a husband, father, son, brother, friend and businessman. He was only 46-years-old.

Visitation will be held on Friday 6-8p.m. at First Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church located at 4730 A.C.L. Blvd. in Savannah. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Jonesville Baptist

Church, located at 5201 Montgomery St. Funeral services are provided by Sylvania Funeral Home of Savannah.
