Campers prepare for 2011 End of Camp concert

Summer Camp 2012 (July 16-27, 2012) is going to be the most fun (and educational) ever! The camp will be held at Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church, 1008 Henry Street at the corner of Henry and Waters.

Summer Camp is open to all rising 2nd through 8th graders.

This year, instead of putting on an End of Camp concert, the SCC will produce an End of Camp Show – a fully staged music, singing, dancing and choreographed event, which will take place on Friday, July 27 at 7 p.m. at Asbury.

In addition to the core summer camp classes of Sight Singing, Music History and Music Theory, campers will also enjoy classes in dance and movement and drama. They’ll explore various types of dance, and boys will even get to learn and show off some step dancing skills! Campers will learn how to use their bodies and faces to communicate expressively – whether moving around or standing still.

Camp includes daily group choral work, play time, healthy snacks, and Afternoon Enrichment; a daily afternoon concert to entertain, educate and build audience skills. The entire two-week camp also serves as the only audition into the 2012-2013 Savannah Children’s Choir.

For those with interested children too young for Summer Camp, the SCC also offers Mini-Camp. This one-week, half-day camp is designed for children ages 4- 7, and teaches core musical concepts through fun and play. Mini-Campers also have a role in the End of Camp Show.

The camp brochure can be found on the SCC’s website, savannahchoir.org. New this year, campers can also register online and pay by credit card.

The SCC offers an Early Bird discount for registrations received by May 1, and needs-based financial aid is also available. Final registration deadline is June 15.
