Savannah Chapter of The Links, Opened 11th Annual Art Exhibition


 
 

The Savannah Chapter of The Links, Incorporated opened the 11th Annual New Beginning Youth Art Exhibition with a reception on February 7, 2012. The Chapter has sponsored the program since 2001. The goals of this program are to provide positive publicity and recognition for talented art students as well as support for school programs. The Exhibit celebrates the talent of local middle-school and high-school students. Over 350 works from 13 middle schools and eight high schools were exhibited. In 2003, “The New Beginning Art Exhibition” became a listed activity during the Black Heritage Festival week of activities sponsored by Savannah and Savannah State University. This year, the exhibits were based on the 2012 Black Heritage Festival theme, “Journeys, Passages, and Transitions”. Angel Miew Xinn Ang’s mixed media, “A Nation Under Our Feet”, won Best of Show. Angel is a student at Savannah Arts Academy.

The Savannah- Chatham County Public School System is a valued partner with the Savannah Chapter of The Links, Incorporated. Together, we are able to achieve the following objectives : To encourage the development of young and talented artists enrolled in local middle and high schools; To provide a professional forum for the young artist to display their art work; To celebrate the culture and history of diverse groups of people through the medium of art.

The members of the Savannah Chapter of The Links, Incorporated are proud to say that “The New Beginning Art Exhibit” has become a very popular event and is held in high regard by school leaders, art teachers, students, parents and community partners. The Exhibit will be available at the Gallery S.P.A.C.E. from February 7 – March 2, 2012. During the month of March, the students’ artwork will be exhibited at the Savannah/ Hilton Head Airport Art Gallery.
