Savannah Baptist Ministers’ Wives & Widows Celebrated 62nd Anniversary and Scholarship Dedication

The Savannah Baptist Ministers’ Wives and Ministers’ Widows Alliance celebrated its 62nd Anniversary and dedicated their Scholarship Project. In celebration of this outstanding occasion a wonderful program of Praise and Worship preceded the Anniversary Message delivered by the Rev. Alfonza McClendon, Pastor of the First Metropolitan Baptist Church which served as the venue. This glorious event was held on Friday evening, November 4, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. The church is located at West 37th Street. Other Pastors/Minister husbands also participated on the program. Special music was provided by First Metropolitan’s Choirs; Lady Corine Ackerson-Jones of Tremont Baptist Church served as the Worship Leader.

This very festive program was under the leadership of President Mrs. Janet W. Moultrie and the Program Committee. The many family members and friends who joined us, was blessed as we praise the Lord for the great things He has done in our lives. President, Pastor Kim Gadsden, Immediate Past President Evang. Jackie B. Small40 and members of the Savannah Interdenominational MWMW and Mrs. Elizabeth Lee, President and members of the Pilgrim & Vicinity MWMW also participated during the event.

The centerpiece of the evening was the Dedication

Service of unveiling the Jessie Moody Gibbs Memorial Scholarship which will be presented annually to a deserving youth in our community. The Dedication Service was led by Local President; Mrs. Janet W. Moultrie, International Assistant Treasurer, Minister Sophronia M. McClendon and Georgia State Association MWMW First Vice President, Mrs. Carolyn S. Blackshear.

Mother Gibbs was a beloved founding member of the organization having served as the first Parliamentarian in 1954. She was a beloved, outstanding community leader, retired educator, church leader and Ministers’ Wife extraordinaire who served with distinction for more than fifty years. She became a stalwart in this organization serving on the local, State and International levels.

Members of the Gibbs Family were present to receive this honor; they were her twin daughters and their husbands, Pastor Jessica and Bishop Archie Simmons and Mrs. Dorothy and Mr. Ed Lowe. In appreciation of this honor, Bishop and Pastor Simmons announced, they will fund the first scholarship of $500.00 for 2017.
