State Representative Carl Gilliard (D-Garden City) will host the Georgia Poverty Summit from Wednesday, May 17 – Friday, May 19, 2017, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Savannah Technical College on 5717 White Bluff Road.
The Georgia Poverty Summit a three-day career fair and keynote speakers will include the Department of Human Services Commissioner Robyn A. Crittenden, the Department of Juvenile Justice Commissioner Avery Niles. State representatives and representatives from various organizations and state agencies, including the Georgia Department Community Affairs, the Georgia
Department of Labor, the Georgia Public Service Commission and the Urban League of Greater Atlanta, will also be in attendance.
“According to a 2016 report, 1,694,988 Georgians live in poverty and are without basic needs like clothing and shelter,” said Rep. Gilliard. “This statistic is shocking and unacceptable, and something must be done to help these individuals in need. I look forward to hosting the Georgia Poverty Summit, as I believe this event will provide viable opportunities and sustainable solutions for the challenges faced by Georgians living in poverty.”
Light breakfast and lunch will be served during the event. The event is free, but registration is required.
