Rep. Gilliard to Host Georgia Poverty Summit

State Representative Carl Gilliard (D-Garden City) will host the Georgia Poverty Summit from Wednesday, April 4 – Friday, April 6, 2018, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. each day at Savannah Technical College, 5717 White Bluff Rd. The summit’s theme is “Failure is not an Option,” and the three-day summit will focus on opportunities in film, as well as opportunities with companies, such as the Georgia Ports Authority, Colonial Oil Industries, Inc., Gulfstream Aerospace and more.

Summit participants will have an opportunity to receive down payment assistance to transition from renting to home ownership. Participants will have the opportunity to be certified as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise to secure contracts and learn to how to obtain loans for commercial space. Further, participants will be able to engage in National Poverty Reduction programs initiated through the Urban League of Greater Atlanta and youth poverty initiatives with two time Super Bowl champion Tyrone Poole.

The Georgia Poverty Summit will also commemorate the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s death and the Poor People’s Campaign.
