Mr. Steve Derr, principal at Coastal Georgia Comprehensive Academy, received the 2015 Individual Merit Award from the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD). Mr. Derr was presented with the award during the department’s 8th annual System of Care Academy.
He was nominated for his collaboration and assistance efforts that have not gone unnoticed over the years. Systems of Care is a philosophy that embodies work that is family-driven and youth-guided. For the past eight years, DBHDD has acknowledged, nominated, and honored individuals and agencies that reflect this kind of work. Mr. Derr has been such a person and a valuable partner to multiple agencies, as the department continues to serve youth with special needs in our community.
Mr. Derr has dedicated his life to specialized education that fosters a nurturing and therapeutic environment. He recognizes the unique and varied needs of our learners, and is committed to the continual improvement of care for those with behavioral health challenges and developmental disabilities.
