American Diabetes Association’s Kiss-a-Pig campaign, will host the Pre-Mother’s Day Gospel Extravaganza at St. John Baptist Church “The Mighty Fortress” on Saturday, May 2nd at 4:00pm.
This star-studded concert features the Mass Choir of Tremont Temple Missionary Baptist Church led by DeAndre Ervin, Minister of Music; Gospel Singer Rev. Sammie Kenty; Gospel Jazz Saxophonist Antonio Allen, Gospel singer Charlesetta Blake, special guest appearance by G.A.M.M. (God’s Anointed Mime Ministry) and International Award Winning Artist Funmilayo Ngozi.Grammy nominee . Rev. Clarence “Teddy” Williams will emcee.
Funmilayo Ngozi is an award winning international recording artist hailing from Atlanta, Georgia. She has devoted her professional career to studies in music and educational leadership as well as main stage productions and operatic competitions throughout the southeastern states. Ngozi has received numerous accolades for her service in education and as a recording artist. She has received the Sylvia McNair Soprano Award, Golden Apple Award, recognition by Gospel Station WNRR 1380 AM as one of the top Independent Artists in Gospel music for her single “I Know A Man,” Opera Carolina Apprenticeship, and her first Grammy Nomination from the Grammy Foundation as of recent, to name a few. She is a graduate of Maryville College, University of South Carolina-Columbia, and Cambridge College. Funmilayo currently resides in Augusta, Georgia with her husband Samuel and is a Chorus teacher for the Richmond County School District. In her spare time she enjoys working on special projects with students, shopping, and serving in the church.
Antonio Allen grew up playing in his mom’s church and now travels extensively – sharing his music around world. Recent tours include multiple stops in London, Amsterdam, Canada, and the US Virgin Islands. He has performed with such notables as Fred Hammond, Jennifer Holiday, Najee, Kirk Whalum and Stevie Wonder. Antonio and his wife, Tia, started the “Forever & Always” ministry/ foundation which is geared towards counseling and helping young Christian couples stay together. To date, Antonio has released 6 CD’s; the latest entitled “From The Heart.”
Gospel vocalist, Charlesetta Blake, a native of Savannah. Her career as a gospel vocalist stem from The Savannah Community Choir, The Savannah Mass Choir, The Gospel Music Workshop of America to the best Soloist and contemporary vocalist in 2006. Ms. Blake’s mission is to bring healing into lives of God’s people from the anointing of her gift to sing God’s praises.
Kiss-a-Pig is the largest diabetes awareness and fundraising campaign of the year for the American Diabetes Association (ADA). The Campaign Chairman is Marianne Ganem Poppell. A contest between community leaders to raise money, Kiss-a-Pig is a regional campaign with competitors from throughout Southeast Georgia. At the end of the three month campaign, the team with the most money kisses a live pig, honored by ADA as the original source of insulin. Funds raised during the Kiss-a-Pig campaign benefit American Diabetes Association, the nation’s leading organization dedicated to curing diabetes and improving the lives of all people affected by diabetes.
