Post 500 Welcomes American Legion Past National Commander

On Tuesday, April 2, 2013 The American Legion Post 500 hosted a welcoming ceremony for American Legion Past National Commander Jake Comer. PNC Comer was accompanied by Georgia Department Commander Bill Lienhop and staff, District and local Legion officials. There was over 200 persons in attendance throughout the day. PNC Comer is visiting Savannah to promote Legion membership and to review progress of the Post 500 building renovation. Post 500 is initiating a total building renovation of their Post home which has been in disrepair and unoccupied for over (3) years. The Home Depot is providing much needed and much appreciated financial assistance for the renovation.

City Alderwoman Mary Osborne brought greetings and welcome from the City of Savannah. Georgia State Senator Lester Jackson welcomed PNC Comer and provided remarks in support of veterans and Post 500 of which he is a member.

Doug Coleman, manager of The Home Depot store on East Victory Drive, provided a description of the support and assistance they’re providing Post 500 to help the building renovation.

BBQ Ribs and Fish dinners were sold and served throughout the day.
