Pastor C. MeGill Brown, the Officers and Members of the Historic Second African Baptist Church extends an invitation to share with us on Sunday, November 17th during our Morning Worship Service at 11 am, as we celebrate the Oper Walker Guild Ministry.
The Oper Walker Guild has been a staple in the history, growth and development of Second African. Named after Oper Lee Watson Walker, a faithful and dedicated member of Second Baptist, during the early 1900’s. Mrs. Walker was a cosmetologist by trade, but her impact was felt through the church, NAACP, Eastern Star Masons and the National Council of Negro Women.
As we celebrate this ministry, we have invited the Reverend Mary Alice Johnson to serve as our special guest messenger for this occasion. Rev. Johnson was called into the ministry in January of 1993, and licensed to preach the gospel in June of the following year. In August of 1996, she was ordained as a minister by the late Rev. Willie Gwyn, former Pastor of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Johnson has also served as Adult Class Sunday School teacher, member of the Senior Choir, Senior Mission, Church Clerk, Director of the Baptist Training Union, Minister of Children’s Church and President of the Mission Ministry. She has also held offices in the New Era Baptist Convention, including the State Director for the Women’s Department.
