Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Awards $10,000 in Scholarships

Mu Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated hosted their annual Scholarship Awards Celebration to commemorate the accomplishments of area 2009 high school graduates.

A total of $10,000 in scholarships were awarded throughout the evening which was held at the Hilton Garden Inn Midtown.

Several recipients were given awards based on the Fraternity’s four cardinal principals, Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance, and Uplift.

The awards included a Basileus Outstanding Achievers Award, Community Service, and Academic Achievement Awards.

The Brothers of Mu Phi Chapter hosted a mixer that preceded the banquet for the family and friends of the recipients.

The program included reflections from former scholarship recipients along with remarks from Dr. Thomas B. Lockamy, Jr. Savannah-Chatham County Public School District Superintendent.

Mrs. Irene C. Hines, District 5 School Board member was also in attendance.

Proceeds for scholarships come from the generous supporters for the chapter’s annual Omega Mardi Gras and other fund raising events.

Mu Phi, the local chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated was established on April 7, 1926, and has been serving the community through various mandated programs that include, mentoring at risk youth, Habitat for Humanity, and American Diabetes Awareness.
