The National Association of Black Military Women will be hosting its 17th Biennial Reunion during the 18-22 August 2010 in historical city of Savannah.

The National Association of Black Military Women (NABMW) is an association of women located throughout the country who are veterans or current members of the United States Armed Forces.

It was founded under the former name of “The Black WAAC, WAC, Women in Service” in 1976 and was later renamed the National Association of Black Military Women to include Black Military Women from all services of the US Armed Forces. More information about us can be found at our web site www.nabmw.com .

The mission of NABMW is to seek out, record, maintain and tell the history and heritage of African-American Military Women who served and are serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Members consist of military women who served from WWII to current wars/conflicts. Yes African American females served in WWII. The organization fees very fortunate to have them because they are dying out. (Most are in the 90s).

NABMW will be honoring one of our own citizens during our reunion. The late WWII veteran Mrs Anne Knight Jordan. Jordan had a distinguished career.

She organized local chapters of national associations, did substitute teaching, headed membership drives for charitable causes, represented Chatham County at the Salk Institute in San Diego, CA and was President of the National Medical Auxiliary, Inc. Jordan attended a White House Conference on Health, Nutrition, and Food.

She was a charter life member of the NABMW, served on the Organizational Structure Committee, and have been Chairperson of the Southeast Region.

She was a dedicated and committed member of the association and strived to take and spread our message about the history of Black military women wherever and whenever she could.

Two years ago when Savannah was selected as the next reunion site, Mrs. Jordan was very excited and could not wait to show off her city.

Unfortunately, Mrs Jordan died in January of this year. Jordan was married to the late Dr. Carl Jordan who was one of our prominent surgeons and native of Savannah.
