Massie Heritage Center Hosts “Black Heritage Month Community Open House”

On Sunday, February 25, 2018, Massie Heritage Center, 207 East Gordon Street in Savannah, is offering FREE admission from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. for visitors to explore Savannah’s Black Heritage.

There will be various activities such as a Black Heritage Scavenger Hunt and a Journey on the Underground Railroad. This is a family-friend event for all ages.

Events Include:

A Journey on the Underground Railroad is an interactive story telling session about an enslaved child escaping to freedom.

Enslavement to Emancipation: The Struggle for Education Exhibit Experience that traces the history of education in the 19th century Savannah, from the era of clandestine schools until desegregation in the early sixties. Featuring Susie King Taylor.

Historic Preservation is a Gallery Talk on the legacy of WW Law in Savannah/The Hermitage Plantation and the enduring Savannah Grey Brick.

The Black Heritage Scavenger Hunt will use clues throughout the museum to discover Savannah’s Black Heirtage.
