The Armstrong State University Department of Art, Music & Theatre (Armstrong AMT) Masquers theatre troupe opens its 2014-2015 black box theatre season with A Piece of My Heart, by Shirley Lauro, for 5 performances only, 7:30 p.m., September 10- 14th in Armstrong Jenkins Hall Black Box Theater.
Award- winning Lauro’s powerful, true drama is the story of six courageous women who went to Vietnam to entertain the troops, how the war changed them, and a nation’s response to them. This play, her best known work, has been produced over 2,000 times around the world and holds the distinction of being named by Vietnam Vets of America, Inc.: “The most enduring play in the nation on Vietnam”.
Student director, Gabriel Michael says “On the surface the play is about the brutality of war, but underneath is a coming of age story at its center. This story will not only resonate with our military community, witness the familiar green fatigues and boonie hats, but will also impact our students and everyone who sees it. A Piece of my Heart is a love story, raised triumphantly on the shoulders of those who gave so much and received so little.”
Masquers performances of A Piece of My Heart are at 7:30 p.m. in Armstrong’s Jenkins Hall Black Box Theater. Please be seated by 7:15 p.m. Limited Seating. Call 912.344.2801 from noon to 3 p.m., weekdays, for information.
