Mary Weathers Named Top School Nurse by the Georgia PTA

School nurses provide substantial medical care and offer critical services for the students of Georgia’s public schools. In recognition of school nurses and the valued service they provide, the Georgia PTA honors one one outstanding school nurse who exhibits exemplary nursing practices and demonstrates the ability to make a difference in the lives of children.

The Savannah- Chatham County Public School System is proud to announce that Mary Weathers of West Chatham Elementary has been awarded the Outstanding School Nurse Award by the Georgia Parent Teacher Association. Weathers competed with fellow nurses from Elementary, Middle, and High Schools all over Georgia. “We are privileged to have someone so caring and passionate when it comes to the care of our students. She is one of the voices for every child,” says Sandra Jones, the PTA treasurer of West Chatham Elementary. Mary Weathers makes a significant contribution to the school on a daily basis. She is knowledgeable in her field and is proactive in extending knowledge to the teachers, staff, and students. Her commitment to health, safety, and wellness extends throughout the school, as she ensures faculty and staff are trained on CPR and First Aid. She also works to keep all informed of current health and safety information that affect the students and the community. She is diligent in following district policies and procedures, and has taken a leadership role in West Chatham’s Emergency Response Team, as well as the Student Truancy Committee.

As part of the judging criteria, Weathers received evaluations from both her principal and her students. This award will be presented at the Georgia PTA Awards Banquet on July 13, 2012 in Athens, Georgia.

Outstanding School Nurse Award: The Georgia PTA honors outstanding school nurses or individuals who provide health care services for students on a full or part time basis at a school in either elementary, middle or high school.
