Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society to Hold 10th Annual Buddy Walk

The Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society (LDSS) announces plans for the 10th annual Buddy Walk to be in Forsyth Park on Saturday, October 3 at 10 a.m. Last year’s one-mile awareness walk welcomed over 5,000 participants. All proceeds raised will continue to be used to fund and support LDSS’ programs such as Camp Buddy and Night of Champions.

The Buddy Walk is open to all ages and abilities – even the family pet. The goals of this annual event are to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome and to positively influence local and national policy and practice.

“The walk takes place in October as our way of celebrating National Down Syndrome Awareness month,” said Candy Bogardus, LDSS Board Member. “It allows us the opportunity to recognize individuals with Down syndrome and celebrate their contributions to our society.”

Immediately following the walk, the Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society holds a Family Fun Festival in the park until 2 p.m. Activities include face painting, pumpkin painting, princess and pirate booths, bounce houses, games, music and refreshments.

Online registration is available at www.ldssga.org until Wednesday, September 30 at 11 p.m. Participants can also sign-up starting at 8:30 a.m. the day of the event. Registration is $15 per person or $50 for a family of four, which includes a T-Shirt, lunch and admission to the festival.
