The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program administered by the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services will be open again for appointments Sunday March 11, 2018 starting at 7:00 pm by phone and online. This will be final time for appointment for energy assistance for until November 2018. This federally funded program assists low income, elderly and homebound Georgians with heating bills through direct payments to home energy suppliers.
On Sunday, March 11, 2018 residents in Chatham County can obtain an appointment by phone (912- 821-7910) or online (http:// eoasga.caschceduler.com) beginning at 7:00 pm for the Department’s Low Income
Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Funds are administered in Chatham County by the Economic Opportunity for Savannah-Chatham County Area, Inc. (EOA-Savannah). All appointments will only be taken by the manner listed above. The agency has a limited amount of funds for Chatham County residents. There will be approximately 1760 appointments issued. Based on pass experiences more than 4000 people will be calling for the limited number of appointments. This program is for heating assistance only. To qualify, a family’s annual income must be less than or equal to 60 percent of the median income for a Georgia family. For a household of one, the income threshold is $22,045; the income threshold for a household of eight is $58,505. Documents needed by individuals receiving an appointment are as follows: 1. Most recent utility bills (both electric and gas, if applicable) 2. Social Security Numbers card for each member of the household, 3. Proof of Citizenship for each member of the household and 4. Proof of Income for the last 30 days for each adult (18 and over) member of the household. a. Proof of income can include, but is not limited to, a paycheck stub, a letter granting public assistance, Social Security or unemployment benefits for all applicable members of the household.
