To the Editor:

The Junior League of Savannah is an organization of over 1000 women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities.

The Junior League of Savannah is the largest volunteer organization in the Coastal Empire with members in the Savannah, Brunswick and South Carolina Low Country areas.

In recognition of National Volunteer Week, April 19th-25th, the Board of Directors and I salute the volunteers in our organization. Each year our active members donate more than 18,500 hours back to our community.

The value of our annual service to our community is over $362,000 not to mention the many lives that we improve and the care our members give our communities. Since our inception in 1926, we have donated approximately $2.6

million and more than 518,000 volunteer hours to the Savannah, Brunswick and Hilton Head areas.

This achievement represents tireless efforts of thousands of women through our 83 year history.

In addition, community support of our two fund raisers has enabled us to generate the money that directly benefits the community projects on which our volunteers work.

Thrift Sale, which celebrated its 61st anniversary last October, routinely has shoppers lined up long before the doors open, and our cookbooks “Savannah Style” and Downtown Savannah Style” have become local favorites.

Our platinum sponsors, SunTrust, Publix Supermarket Charities and Levy Jewelers, along with our other sponsors, provide additional funding for us to continue our mission.

We are proud of our volunteers and their hard work to build a better community.
