Juliette Low Celebrated Read Across America and Dr. Seuss’ Birthday

Juliette Low Elementary celebrated “Read Across America” and Dr. Seuss’ birthday on Friday, March 1, 2013. The day began with “readers” from around the city, including: Mayor Edna Jackson, Superintendent Thomas Lockamy and other Board members, Jenkins High Students, WSAV News Anchors Tina Tyus-Shaw and Russ Riesinger, to Savannah Morning News Cartoonist Mark Streeter, just to name a few.

They spent the morning with our students, reading stories from a variety of Dr. Seuss’ books, to include “The Lorax” and “Green Eggs and Ham.” Then, the parade!! Students from the Jenkins High School Band, led by the “Cat in the Hat” marched around the school. Then, everyone assembled on the athletic field for a school-wide Dr. Seuss rally.

Dr. Seuss’ birthday party would be incomplete without “birthday cake”. It was an awesome day, and the children are now even more excited about reading.
