The NAACP has sent this message to our readers:
The Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to begin its confirmation hearings for Judge Brett Kavanaugh today, Tuesday, September 4. NAACP advocates and supporters will be holding a rally on Capitol Hill to make one thing clear to senators:
Brett Kavanaugh has absolutely no business on the Supreme Court.
For those of us who care about justice and equality for all, now is the time to come together and let our senators know that we stand against Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination.
You can participate.

Kavanaugh’ s views on polarizing subjects like Roe v. Wade and the Affordable Care Act are a bit more difficult to parse. Many feel that he will overturn Roe v. Wade. Kavanaugh wrote in an article for the Minnesota Law Review from 2009 that Congress should pass a law “exempting a President—while in office—from criminal prosecution and investigation, including from questioning by criminal prosecutors or defense counsel,” which is a big part of why he was selected by President Trump.
We’re at a crucial point in our country’s history, and the composition of the Supreme Court will have far-reaching consequences for decades to come. Join us to make sure that Kavanaugh is not confirmed.
