Items Needed for Shipment to Monrovia


The International Education Center (IEC) at Savannah State University (SSU) has organized Operation SHEA, Sending Humanitarian Education Abroad. The effort was spearheaded by the International Student Association (ISA), the Savannah African Student Association (SASA), four students who traveled to Liberia last summer, and a graduate student from Liberia studying at SSU.

The collaboration is holding a second collection day to gather items to fillan8x8x20footcontainer to send needed supplies to Liberia. SSU will host a community drop off on Saturday, January 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please bring items for donation to the main gate on La- Roche Avenue.

With assistance from the Liberian Consulate in Atlanta, the donated items will be distributed to community centers and schools via the University of Liberia and the African Methodist Episcopal University, both located in the capital city of Monrovia. SSU has memorandums of understanding and have exchanged visits with each. Additionally, two students from the University of Liberia are currently studying at SSU.

The needed items include:

* Soap – liquid and bar
* Baby wipes
* Diapers
* Tissue – facial and bathroom * Latex gloves
* Disinfecting wipes

* Hand sanitizer
* Shampoo
* Bug spray
* Lotion
* Spray bottles
* Bleach
* Bottled water
* New towels and washcloths * New toys (balls, bats,
gloves, jump ropes)
* New art supplies (paints,
brushes, crayons, scissors,
paper, etc.)
* Notebooks
* Paper
