The Savannah Technical College/ St. Joseph’s Candler Medical Explorer Post celebrates its seventh year of operation this year. During the February 4, 2014 meeting at Savannah Technical College, Medical Assisting students taught Explorers some of the skills they have learned, such as examining slides under a microscope and preparing patients for EKG’s. In addition to the hands-on lab activities, Laurie Herrington-Tyran, Director of Student Support Services administered the Harrington-O’Shea Survey, a Career Decision Making assessment tool that helps students identify their occupational interests, values and abilities.

Many thanks are extended to Laurie Herrington, Heather Valentine and Larry Roberson, Savannah Technical College advisors for the Medical Explorer Post, and also to Jackie Muller, Medical Assisting Department

Head for providing this month’s activities.

This partnership between Savannah Technical College, St. Joseph’s/ Candler, The Coastal Empire Council’s Explorer Post program and the Savannah Chatham Public School System gives youth the opportunity to do an in-depth and on-going exploration of the field of Health Care. Exploring, a subsidiary of Coastal Empire Council Boy Scouts of America, strives to be the area’s leading co-educational youth program for character and career development.
