Home is the place we spend most of our time ( hopefully), enjoying all the blessings of life. Our castle and fortress from the outside world. Our place of rest and respite where we read, rest and relax. Recharge for the work ahead. Raise our children, enjoy family and friends.

Sometimes the home becomes the meeting place for all sorts of gatherings and events.

But more than we know, the home can be the source of illness. Here are some tips for making sure your home is a safe home.

Because of the times we live in and because of our reliance on quick and easy ways to manage our busy lives, we sometimes buy items and products that may save us a little time, but cost us in our health.

Here is a list of items you may want to consider, especially if you have any health issues.

Water Filter:
Because our water is so contaminated, even with pollutants that our municipalities are challenged to clean up, we need to consider a water filtration system at home. Certainly for the kitchen, but also for our bathing waters. This will provide a layer of protection from even from the chlorine and other chemicals used in an attempt to neutralize the harmful bacteria, drugs, and countless other particles, molecules and debris in our drinking water. Studies indicate that some breast cancer is related to breasts ability to absorb chlorines during showering.

Air filter:
The air we breathe is polluted we know, but our homes today are built of, and furnished with materials of unknown origin.

Some being manmade, other natural materials may be treated with chemicals to preserve, strengthen, last, ( or not last,) change color, maintain color, become water proof, stain resistant, and even a thousand variations of a theme.

Many of these chemicals can be come harmful over time, causing or promoting allergic reactions, or worse.

Humidifier:
Particularly in the winter, when we are trying to stay warm, we close up the house as tight as possible, to keep the expensive heat inside.

But, most heating today causes extreme dryness. Dryness in the home, and in the body. We need to add back moisture to the air for our comfort and good health.

Perfumes:
We like for the house to smell good, so we tend to bring in air fresheners or all sorts. Many fragrances today are created from chemicals. Easy and cheap to make, placed in oils, sprays and gels, to make our surrounding smell good.

However, many times these chemicals cause health problems, including allergies, eye problems, breathing problems, lung and skin irritations. Studies now are looking at how these chemicals affect our mood and cognitive abilities.

Try buying your favorite fragrance in an essential oil, dilute in water in a spray bottle, and get a natural good smell.

Mold:
Check your home for mold. Damp areas that get no sunlight.

Bathrooms, closets, kitchen cabinets around the sink, dishwasher, water heater. Anyplace where there may be a leak, or where water does not evaporate quickly.

Plastics:
The use of plastics is so over whelming that research ten years old tells us that 100% of the American population has plastics in our body. Causing havoc with blood sugar control, reproductive issues, obesity, our arteries, brain tissue, liver and other areas. Move to using more glass, ceramics and stainless in our homes.

Microwaving:
Born out of convenience, we are the only country using the microwave oven en masse. In many countries the Microwave is banned. This is so unhealthy it should be banned. Micro waving is unhealthy on so many levels. The oven itself can leak radiation, which causes cancer. Then the food cooked or water heated becomes carcinogenic because of the changes in the foods molecules and death to the enzymes, in the food. Overall, not a good thing.
