Good Body Maintenance Starts Inside

We go to the grocery store and have the best time shopping and picking up items we dream about, salivate for as we watch the commercials, and wish for as we plan our next meal out.

Here, though, are some of the foods that your body is craving, for the nutrients. For the ability to repair and to renew and replace dying cells and degenerating systems and to fix DNA errors before they become problematic.

Nutrients whose job it is to keep the body doing the best job it can do. And it will, as long as we take the time and make the effort to give it the resources it needs. You wouldn’t put gasoline into a diesel engine, would you? That’s what I’m talking about. So, the next time you make your shopping list. Add some of these goodies and give your cells a smile.

Some of the best foods to always have on hand include:

Pumpkin seeds are among the most nutritious seeds and are packed with magnesium. Great for prostate health and long life.

Cinnamon, the spice is great for it’s control of blood sugar and cholesterol.

Use it on baked sweet potatoes, oatmeal, cereal, or make a tea of the cinnamon and sweeten with honey.

Carrot juice as an early morning drink while I make breakfast is a real treat. Cleanses the colon and great for protecting the eyes.

Beets are one of my favorites. Beets are a powerhouse of nutrients rich in sulphur, chlorine, iodine, copper and vitamin B1, B2, C and bioflavonoids. For the person fighting cancer or other debilitating illness, eat the beets, the beet greens and drink the juice. Add to your salad and enjoy.

Cabbage is also loaded with nutrients to fight cancer: sulforaphane, enjoy raw, as in coleslaw, or lightly steamed.

Turmeric is known as the “superstar of spices,” for its anti-inflammatory and healing properties. Add to any vegetable, stew, salad, or pasta dish, or try it with your eggs.

Salmon wild caught fresh or canned, is one of the ultimate health foods. High in omega-3’s, with nearly no mercury and are loaded with calcium. It is also high in iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, zinc, copper and manganese as well as a full complement of B vitamins. What a wonder it is.

Swiss chard is one the most nutrient dense of the leafy greens. Great in salads, or lightly sauté in good olive oil. It is packed with carotenoids that protect our eyes as we get older.

Strawberries and blueberries We are in the berry season now! Great time to stock up and freeze for later. Add to salads, cereals, fruit bowls, yogurt, smoothies. You’ll find lots of great ways to add these powerful antioxidants, with its Vitamin C, E and fiber, to your diet.

Research continues to prove that persons who eat the most nutrient dense foods, and who get there antioxidants from fresh clean whole foods remain healthy, vibrant, and live longer and fuller lives. Are you ready to get on the bandwagon? Remember, Health is a Choice!
