Hands On Savannah Honors Dr. King



The United Way’s Hands On Savannah announces service projects and a musical salute that are open to the community to honor Dr. King’s commitment to service! Hands On Savannah is a member of the Hands On Georgia network that provides assistance and networking opportunities to their affiliates across the state. Hands On Georgia is modeled after the national Hands On Network Organization. Be part of the celebration by participating in the following activities planned to honor Dr. King:

Monday, January 19, 2009 11:00am – 1:00pm- Volunteers will assist with landscaping activities at the West Broad Street YMCA (located at 1110 MAY Street), as employees from Georgia Power focus on a variety of interior renovations. There will be time for reflection after the project and refreshments will be provided. Sponsors include the United Way’s Hands On Savannah and Hands On Georgia.

Wednesday, January 21, 2009 noon – 3:00pm- share the social, cultural and political history of your life experiences in the Bryan County community by documenting your memories in this Pembroke Oral History Project. Call 651.7725 or email: kfritz@uwce.org to receive further information.

Friday January 23, 2009 12:30pm – 4:00 pm – “Welcome to the State of Poverty” simulation. The poverty simulation will be held from 1- 4 p.m. at the Gignilliat Auditorium, 3rd floor of the Georgia Power building, 600 Bay Street (enter on the River Street side). Registration is required to participate in the simulation, and if you have previously participated in a poverty simulation and would like to volunteer, contact Kim Fritz at Hands On Savannah by phone, 651.7725.
