Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for New Butler Elementary School

Groundbreaking Ceremonies for the new JHC Butler Elementary School were held Friday, June 4, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. on the school’s campus at 1909 Cynthia Street.

Dedicated on May 5, 1963, the school was originally named Cloverdale Elementary. It was renamed for educator and community leader James Henry Coy Butler.

The new Butler will be an 85,906 square feet school with 41 classrooms including a renovated gymnasium, art, and music rooms.

The 750 square feet classrooms will have shared restrooms.

Other special features include a media center with video and multi-media facilities, computer lab, dining area with stage, administration area, and outdoor courtyards. The school will be completed and ready for the 2011-2012 school year.
