Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Gamma Sigma Omega Chapter crowned Leah Christine Jackson “Miss Precious Gem” on Saturday, June 7th, 2014 at their Junior Débutante Cotillion held in the Savannah Ballroom, King Frazier Complex at Savannah State University.

Leah, the daughter of Dr. Lester and Dr. Lorna Jackson, performed two piano selections as her individual talent, “Give Me That Old Time Religion” and “He’ll Be Your Friend.” An 8th grade student at Savannah Country Day School, Jackson aspires to become a pediatrician. She attends Bethel A.M.E. Church and enjoys volleyball, softball, dancing, cheerleading, reading and music.

of Notosha Lark, first runner up; Zariyah DeNay Cope, the daughter of Gerald and Lakeshia Cope, second runner up; Jarkaylah K.. Kelly, ShaKayla J. King, Orlasha Phillips-Pickens, Faith Reynolds, and Tiana Watts.

The Cotillion, themed “A Rainbow of Stars”, opened as the débutantes informally introduced themselves and their aspirations in a choreographed dance. The débutantes showcased their individual talents and were then formally introduced as they were escorted into the Savannah Ballroom in their full-length white gowns.

Other participants were singer Skye Williams, violinist Mina Smith, and pianist Janeille Hannon. The Cotillion was co-hosted by the Gamma Upsilon Chapter of Savannah State University.

social, educational and cultural growth for middle school age young ladies. This annual fundraising pageant allows Moving All Races To Higher Achievement (M.A.R.T.H.A.) Inc., the 501 (c)(3) nonprofit of Gamma Sigma Omega, to continue to provide scholarships and charitable contributions to programs and services that assist in the growth and development of the communities, families and children within the Savannah-Chatham area.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is an international service organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for citizens’ worldwide under the leadership of its 28th International President Carolyn House Stewart. Locally, Gamma Sigma Omega is led by Tarangula B. Scott and the president of Gamma Upsilon is Brittany Barnwell.
