First African American to be Elected to Probate Judge in Richmond County

Savannah native Harry B. James, II, son of the late Harry B. James and the Alethia Thornton James has been elected Probate Judge for the county of Richmond (Augusta, Ga) during the “Decision 2012” election held on November 6.

James has been very active in civic and social activities in the Augusta community. He has also served in numerous judicial positions including Municipal court Judge of Richmond County.

James is a graduate of Savannah State College (now University) and George Washington University where he received his law degree. James’ goal is to promote community education about the role of probate court in family matters. He is married to his wife Sharon and they have 2 children.

  1. You have doomed Carrie Bishop to a life of negligence and heartache at the Gracewood Campus Augusta. You denied my petition to help her. She must now remain a prisoner at Gracewood, State of Georgia.
