The U.S. Department of Transportation has granted Savannah, Ga $1.5 million for an electric bus and four depot chargers for the Chatham Area Transit (CAT). CAT received the money through its Low- or No-Emission Grant program. Forty-one states are receiving a share of $84.45 million to invest in electric or hybrid transportation and Savannah’s CAT was the only project in Georgia to be funded. The state of Georgia is always allowing CAT to use $4.6 million from a local grant program and a proposal was presented Tuesday, at the CAT Board Meeting for the purchase of six electric buses. By 2023 Savannah intends on converting 15% of transportation to hybrid technologies or alternate fuels.
