The Earl T. Shinhoster Youth Leadership Institute was held July 21-25, 2014 at the Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum located Martin Luther King Jr., Boulevard. Twelve students participated in the 2014 Leadership Institute. They included Christian Crawford, Victoria Coles, Kohl Davis-Brown, Tianna Irvin, Rasheed Jinks, Diajion Foxworth, D’Artagnonn Trappio, Melant Edenfield, Fazion Fleming, Jamil Fleming and Iyanna Bargeron.

The 2014 Leadership Institute focused on Entrepreneurialship. The Institute invited local business leaders throughout the Savannah community to speak to the students about their business experiences. Among the local business leaders were Mr. Willie Blake of Beach High School Future Business Leaders of America; Tour Guide Jamal Toure’; Romondo Stewart of Sigma Graphics/T-shirt Store and others. During the Leadership Institute camp, the students learned more about communication skills from Dr. Kai Walker of Savannah State University.

After a week of, fun learning sessions that promote improved oral and written communications skills, civic responsibility, decision making / goal setting techniques each student made a presentation of their very own business interest to 3 judges, family members and friends.

The Earl Shinhoster Leadership Institute staff included George Shinhoster, Richard Shinhoster, Ruby Shinhoster, Jean Dallas, Lillian Shinhoster, Yvonne Shinhoster Lamb, Debora Shinhoster Richards and Margaret Shinhoster Carthon.
