Eagles End Super Bowl Drought

The drought has finally ended. After 57 years the Philadelphia Eagles will finally bring home the Lombardi Trophy for the first time. The Eagles ended their drought after defeating the New England Patriots 41- 33.

The Eagles were considered underdogs all throughout the playoffs, coming into the Super Bowl the Eagles were six points underdogs.

“We owe it to God, first and foremost. This team, no one picked us. We come out here and we’re world champions.” said Eagles tight end Zach Ertz

Backup quarterback Nick Foles, who took over when Carson Wentz torn his ACL, threw for 373 yards. He also threw three touchdowns and caught a receiving touchdown on a 4th down play.

“Over the last three or four weeks, we just kept meeting. We kept game-planning, Doug asked me what kind of plays I like, and we kept building it around what we were doing. It reflects in the execution on the field.” said Foles

This year’s Super Bowl saw a record of 1,151 yards and 74 points, the most of any Super Bowl. Foles, who was named the Super Bowl MVP, once considered retiring. Foles’s wife Tori Moore is suffering from Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome and Lyme disease. After his wife was diagnosed he says he lost the love for the game.

“After my time with a certain NFL team, I wanted to retire. This was a year ago. I wanted to retire from the NFL, and I really struggled. I couldn’t pick up a football for about eight months. I had no love for the game, and it was tough” said Foles.

His wife, Moore encourage him to continue and he soon found his way and place with the Eagle finally winning a Super Bowl ring.

Foles is only the10th backup quarterback to lead his team to a Super Bowl win.
