Dr. S. Henderson To Present 12th Annual Spirit Of Excellence Business Awards

The 12th Annual Spirit of Excellence Business Awards Gala will showcase the extraordinary accomplishments of the low country’s Middle and High School students. The event will highlight the best and the brightest students in the areas of Entrepreneurship, Leadership, Academics, Performing Arts and Community Service.

For the past few years Dr. Henderson has traveled to her native Savannah to present her namesake; Dr. Stacy L. Henderson “Military Leadership” Award and a college stipend to a deserving high school senior from the local community. A high achiever herself, she was inducted a Chicago Defender Woman of Excellence-2014 and received the Dr. Maya Angelou Award at Savannah’s Juneteenth Festival this past summer. Dedicated to academic excellence and community service, Dr. Henderson co-sponsored the Savannah Back- 2School Extravaganza hosted by the ‘Toots for Books’ Literacy and Ms. Shanta Green. With Homecoming festivities and HBCU Football Classics now underway, she sponsored several Savannah, Chicago and Atlanta-area high school students to attend events which included college fairs, mentoring sessions, football games and celebrations. Having attended Savannah State College (now University), Dr. Henderson is a strong advocate of higher education and supports HBCUs. Her desire is that young adults have access to resources and take advantage of the opportunities which will afford them the chance at a successful future.

A retired naval officer, she is an active member of the Coalition of Veterans Organizations, VFW and the National Women Veterans United. She is also a Life Member of the Montford Point Marine Association, Inc. (Chicago Chapter #2) and the Association’s reigning National Queen, 2014-15 for a 2nd consecutive year.

The Spirit of Excellence Business Awards Gala will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at the Savannah Riverfront Marriott, 6:30pm. A few previous honorees have included the Montford Point Marines of Savannah: Samuel Berksteiner, Reginald Brown, Rev. Willie Outler and John A. White. Some of the other notable Honorees were Representative J. Craig Gordon, Senator Lester Jackson, Dr. Emory Shaw Campbell, General Lloyd “Fig” Newton, Bronco Bostick, Mayor of Hardeeville, SC; Reverend Matthew Southall Brown, Sr., Jamarey Isaiah Baker, a Beach High School Alum and Amar T. Wilkins, a Ridgeland-Hardeeville, SC High School Alum. The Awards Gala started in 2003 and is produced and directed by Estelle Mannion, President and CEO of Stellar Productions Advertising, LLC.
