After 8 years of serving as President of the United States, President Barak Obama and family made their transition from the White House to their new home last Friday while the Trump family prepared to move in. The Obama family will remain in Washington, D. C. until Sasha (youngest daughter) graduates from high school in 2019.
Meanwhile, on Friday, January 20, 2017 newly elected President Donald Trump was sworn in as the 45th President of the United States. He took the oath of office at noon which was administered by Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts. In his inaugural address which lasted about 20 minutes, President Trump stated,“Today, we are not merely transferring power from one administration to another, or from one
party to another, but we are transferring power from Washington D.C. and giving it back to you, the people”. He continued, “We’ve made other countries rich, while the wealth, strength and confidence of our country has dissipated over the horizon,” he said. “From this day forward, a new vision will govern our land. From this day forward, it’s going to be only America first. America first.”
In his speech, Trump focused little on healing the lasting divisions of the presidential campaign— made evident by protesters gathered in the nation’s capital to demonstrate opposition to the incoming president.
Democratic Presidential nominee Hillary Clinton attended the inauguration along with her husband former President Bill Clinton. Former Presidents Jimmy Carter and George W. Bush were also in attendance.
