Connor’s Temple Installs Pastor

On Sunday, February 17, 2013, Rev. Terrance Lavon Burrell, Sr. was installed as Pastor of Connor’s Temple Baptist Church. The Installation Service was officiated by the Rev. Matthew Southall Brown, Sr., Moderator Emeritus of the Berean Association.

The inspiring and challenging Installation Sermon was given by Rev. Norvel Glover, Rev. Burrell’s pastor of the Mount Calvary Baptist Church of Pritchard, Alabama. Rev. Glover was also accompanied by many members from his congregation in support of this spirit filled event.

In addition to members of Mount Calvary, were congregants of Midway Missionary Baptist Church of Theodore, Alabama to provide support and well wishes to their former beloved pastor. Rev. Burrell pastored Midway Church for seven years prior to coming to Connor’s Temple. The visiting choir of Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church as well as the choir of Connor’s Temple Baptist Church sang soul-stirring songs which gratified the spirit of those present.

There were a host of Pastors from local Savannah churches in attendance; in addition to local and state dignitaries, as well as, local business personnel. Other family, visitors and friends were also present. Rev. Thurmand Tillman presented the charge to Pastor Burrell, Rev. Sammie Kenty charged the congregation and Rev. Matthew

Southall Brown, Sr. issued a charge to the Deacons of Connor’s Temple.

Rev.

Burrell comes as the fourth minister to Pastor the congregation of Connor’s Temple. In her eighty-six years, Connor’s Temple has served the Savannah-Chatham County community outstandingly and ministered to those in need. The past servants of God were Rev. Noah Connor (22 years), the Founder; Rev. Willie Williams Whitehead (23 years), the Builder; and Rev. Dr. Bennie R. Mitchell, Jr. (36 years), the Visionary. They served Connor’s Temple based on the Grace and Blessings received from God.

They have left some mighty footprints in the sands. Rev. Burrell comes, also as a servant of God, not to walk in their footprints; but to leave his own for it was God who chose Rev. Terrance Lavon Burrell, Sr. as the Pastor of Connor’s Temple Baptist Church to continue to lead this flock of baptized believers. Rev. Burrell will embrace the history of those who have laid the path through the mountains and valleys; as he walks through the paths that God has set for him.

We welcome Rev. Burrell and his family to Savannah, Georgia.

To God be the Glory for what He has done! The congregation of Connor’s Temple has opened its arms to embrace Rev. Burrell as he leads the Church on God’s mission. “Oh, Christian, there is work to be done.”
