Columbus Day Forums for Savannah Mayor and City Council Candidates

The Savannah Morning News and Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB Savannah) will host a full day of candidate forums for the upcoming mayoral and alderman posts on Monday, Oct. 12, in the auditorium of Savannah Morning News, located at 1375 Chatham Pkwy.

“It’s an entire day set aside for candidates and forums to focus on the city’s issues and the next group of potential leaders,” said Susan Catron, Executive Editor of the Savannah Morning News and savannahnow.com. “We know it’s a federal and school holiday and we’re hoping that allows for more people to really take the day and think about what’s next for Savannah.”

The day will consist of six moderated onehour forums that give candidates the opportunity to communicate their plans to address the issues in our community; it is not a debate. Candidates will make brief opening remarks and then a panel of journalists from the Savannah Morning News, GPB Savannah and The Savannah Tribune, will question the candidates.

The forum schedule is as follows:

9:00 a.m. Districts 1, 2
10: 30 a.m. Districts 5,6
2:00 p.m Districts 3, 4
3:30 p.m. At- Large 1
6:00 p.m. At- Large 2

7:30 p.m. Mayor

William Kelso, vice president for Advancement at Armstrong State University, will serve as moderator of the forums. Attendance is free and open to the public, though seating is limited. The forums will be streamed live on savannahnow.com and recorded for broadcast and podcasts by GPB Savannah. No campaign literature or paraphernalia such as signs and buttons will be allowed at the event. People wearing signs or clothing in support of any candidate will be asked to leave.
