The Coastal Jazz Association presents V, Sunday, February 15th, 2015, at 5:00 – 7:00 pm. at the historical Johnny Harris Restaurant, 1651 East Victory Drive, Savannah. The concert is $20 for the general public, and FREE for Coastal Jazz Association members and students with valid student IDs!
Johnny Harris Restaurant was established in 1924 with a history of music, dancing, and dining, making it a perfect venue for the Coastal Jazz Association monthly concert. Throughout the years many celebrities, sports heroes, and political figures have frequented the large ballroom styled main dining room. Local jazz musician, Beaufort’s Vic Varner, is set to perform and has assembled an outstanding collection of jazz artists whose Bossa grooves have added immensely to the Lowcountry’s live music scene. V (“Vee”) will perform as a quintet featuring Vic on guitar and vocals, Bill Aycock of Charleston on keyboard, George Sheck of Bluffton/New York on double bass, Thom Chambers of Beaufort/Miami on sax/flute and Robert Moring of Charleston on percussion.
Fluid in composition and style, V performs regularly at The Jazz Corner in Hilton Head, Charleston’s Piccolo Jazz Series, and weekly at Saltus River Grill in Beaufort. Whether sharing a rich A.C.Jobim repertoire or American standards, V will draw you in with a musicality that is disciplined yet boundless, smooth yet energetic and always full of spirit.
The Sunday Concert Series is fulfilling the mission of the Coastal Jazz Association (CJA), to keep Jazz alive in Savannah and preserve its rich history. CJA also has a mission in fundraising and providing scholarships to jazz student musicians. Its programs include the annual Savannah Jazz Festival, monthly jazz concert series, and Savannah Jazz Hall of Fame.
