Central Missionary Baptist Church Encourages Healthy Living

Central Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Larry J. Stell, Pastor and their Health Ministry Coordinators Sister Betty Wright, Rhonda Coxon and Sandra Johnson are educating their congregation in making nutrition and fitness an important part of their daily living. CMBC, has been performing blood pressures screenings on their members for over 20 years every 3rd Sunday and has since added blood glucose screenings. There’s a monthly church walk around Forsyth Park and different monthly health posters displayed in the church dining hall that were created by church members.

Central Missionary Baptist Church is now offering one of these classes every Saturday of the month; chair aerobics, zumba, or a nutritional class. These classes are open to everyone, so

Central’s Health Ministry along with St. Francis Cabrini and Temple of Glory attended a Faith- Based Wellness Summit.

On May 19, 2012, Central Missionary Baptist Church Health Ministry hosted a “How to Create a Wellness Clinic.”

Later this year they will host another clinic to get other churches on board. Central’s goals are to work diligently to place the Savannah, community at the top for conquering obesity, smoking, and sedentary living., all which plays a huge role in developing cardiovascular diseases and diabetes.

The Public Health Dept., the African American Association, Bluknowledge, Community Cardiovascular Counsel, Forsyth Park Farmers Market were all contributors to the success of Central’s Health Ministry. Special thanks goes to Keith Mitchell, cardiovascular program manager.
