Bethune-Cookman had almost 400 yards of offense while their defense had six sacks the the Wildcats 24-12 win over Savannah State on September 30.
A crowd of 6,945 in Municipal Stadium witnessed the Tigers remain winless as they fell to 0-4 while B-CU improved to 2-3. Bethune jumped out to a 10-0 lead before SSU’s Tyqueze Johnson tackled Tupac Isme in the end zone for a safety with 4:29 left in the second quarter. Giovanni Lugo kicked a 29 yard field goal for the Tigers in the third quarter but B-CU answered with a touchdowns to increase their lead to 17-5.
Rashad Saxton ran for a 43 yard touchdown for SSU midway in the fourth quarter but the Wildcats put the game away with a touchdown with just over two minutes remaining.
Savannah State’s offensive struggles continued as they were limited to just 163 yards. Saxton ran for 103 yards while D’Vonn Gibbons threw for 58 yards. Elijah Shah had two catches for 31 yards while Donald Rutledge led the defense with nine tackles.
