Bethesda Junior To Attend 2014 Rotary Youth Leadership Awards

Honor roll student and varsity athlete Malik Davis was selected by Bethesda Academy Assistant Principal Karleen Brown to participate in the District 6920 Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, sponsored by the Skidaway Rotary Club of Savannah. Participants enjoy an exciting program with dynamic people on the South Georgia State College campus. RYLA participants attend an all expense paid four day event, where individuals can expand their perceptions, learn about themselves, discuss leadership skills, and put those skills to practice.

This year’s event will be held June 19 – 22, 2014. RYLA is a once in a lifetime experience, including stimulating seminars and lectures by top professionals in various fields. Past speakers include: Secretary of Labor Michael Thurmond, Carl Swearinger of Bell- South and Dave Weber of Weber Associates. During the event, participants have the opportunity to: enhance communication skills to improve relationships with family, partners, co-workers and society; collect innovative ideas for key leadership & successful business strategies; network with positive leaders; explore family dynamics, interpersonal relationships and values; learn how to better understand themselves and others; learn about Rotary’s purpose and service to the community and learn techniques for problem solving and conflict management

Malik is the son of proud parents Tara Smith and Walter Davis III. Malik and his parents are honored for this opportunity. Malik plans to major in Information Technology/Computer Information systems and to pursue his dream to play basketball in college and professionally. Malik’s life goal is to create a network of resources to engage at risk youth and to help the less fortunate.
