Beach High Athletic Association to Hold Annual Hall of Fame Induction


 
 

Beach High’s Athletic Association will hold its Annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Saturday, April 28, 2012. This year’s banquet will be held at the Economic Opportunity Authority’s new banquet room located at 1120 May St. beginning at 6 p.m. The list of inductees for the class of 2012 will include

Joseph Ward, Brisco Gray, and Misty Knight- Brown. Joe Ward was a former Beach High athlete who excelled as an outstanding offensive and defensive tackle in football in 1953. He played along with Claude Roberts, Earl Middleton, William Patterson, and William “Bill” Adams. Ward was a transfer athlete from Charleston, SC and made a name for himself on the track field as well. Brisco Gray enjoyed a stellar basketball career at Beach from 1958 to 1961. In 1960 and 1961 he averaged 11 points and 10 assists per game. he played under Coach Richard Washington and was touted as one of the best point guards to play the game of basketball. Misty Knight- Brown was one of three Division I players off the 1995-96 Beach girls basketball team. As a forward, she was also named All-City for her tenth, eleventh and twelfth grade years. Misty averaged 16 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks while helping the Lady Bulldogs capture the Region Championship, her teams won four Sub-Region titles and three Region 3-AAAA crowns during her tenure. She spent three seasons as a middle blocker on the volleyball team, and was named the team’s best defensive player. She later entered the University of Florida where she had an impressive fouryear stint as a collegiate basketball player. Banquet tickets are available for $35.
