There will be a one day pop-up art exhibit at the Hospice Savannah Art Gallery, 1352 Eisenhower Drive on Veteran’s Day, November 11, 2016. “Art by Everyday Heroes” features the work of 14 local veterans who attend a painting class at the Savannah VA Outpatient Clinic. Meet the artists at their reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. that evening.
The Savannah Veterans of the Arts paint weekly for creative enjoyment and continued social fellowship. Their teacher, Kenneth Martin, says the class helps promote wellness, recovery, meaning and quality of life. The Veterans have exhibited previously at the Telfair Museum’s annual “I Have Marks to Make” show.
A percentage of sales will benefit Hospice Savannah’s “We Honor Veterans” program which recognizes and honors each veteran enrolled in their care. Staff is joined by active duty personnel from the various branches of the armed services as they visit and pin patients who served our country. One in four deaths in the United Sates is a veteran and each one has unique, often unrecognized needs that sometimes complicate the care needed during the dying process and requires skilled interventions from clinical staff.
