Arizona Chemical officials from around the world gathered in Savannah to officially cut the ribbon and open the company’s new Science & Technology Center on April 22, 2014. On hand for the grand opening were Carl Bilgrien, Vice President – Science & Technology; David Cowfer, Vice President – Human Resources & Communications; and Dick Stuyfzand, Vice President – General Counsel, along with other invited local officials, Arizona Chemical employees and many others who were involved in the design and construction of the facility.
It’s hard to believe that it was a little over a year ago that we standing right here on a cold March morning on what was at the time just an empty lot,” Carl Bilgrien said. “The vision we had then of a Science & Technology Center that would be a modern, collaborative environment for our scientists, support staff and customers has become a reality, and I want to congratulate and thank everyone who played a role in making this happen on schedule, on budget and without a safety incident.”
Now home to 50 scientists and support staff, the Savannah S&T Center was designed to be a “best in class” work environment for the company’s scientists, and also a showplace for customers to see innovation in action. “We look forward to bringing our customers, Board members and other guests to see the exciting work we’re doing to advance our vision of being the world’s leading innovator in sustainable chemical solutions,” Kees Verhaar, Arizona Chemical’s President and CEO, said.
Another expected benefit is the lure that a research and development laboratory of this caliber will have for scientists looking to join a company that is growth-oriented. “To compete for top talent in our industry, we must have inspiring work environments,” added Dave Cowfer. “The Center is not only beautiful, but by its design will foster teamwork, creativity and knowledge sharing among our scientists and staff members. We believe the results will be very tangible and powerful with the exceptional team we have today and also evident to those who we wish to bring into our work family in the future.”
The Arizona Chemical complex in the Hudson Hill community of Savannah is also home to one of the global company’s largest refineries, as well. There are now 250 employees working for Arizona Chemical in the company’s Savannah complex.
