Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. 2014 Débutantes Presentation And Ball Held

Beta Phi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. presented its 2014 Débutantes on Friday evening, December 19, 2014 at Savannah State University in the new Student Union Ballroom. The Débutantes were honored during the Annual Formal Alpha Ball. It was the 70th Annual Débutante Presentation and Ball.

The Débutante Season began in November 2013 when the Prospective Débutantes and their parents/ guardians became acquainted with the Brother of Beta Phi Lambda Chapter and the Alphabettes’ (wives and widows of the Brothers) Débutante Committee.

Brother DeWayne Gilliard, Chairman Social Committee; Mrs. Lori Williams, Alphabette; and Brother Shed Dawson gave greetings. “Get Acquainted” Co-Chairpersons were Mrs. LaTasha Swain Gilliard and Mrs. Kimberely E. McGuire.

These three young ladies are pursuing their dreams through post-secondary education. They are active in the community as volunteers to various charitable organization and activities, and provided hundreds of hours of volunteer service. They are also high academic achievers and received many scholarships and awards.

These young ladies will receive the Lillie Jackson Ray Scholarship. Ms. Ray was the wife of Alpha Brother Robert Ray and worked tirelessly with the Débutantes from 1987 through October 2012. Ariuna Toniece Dorsey took first place in the fundraising competition among the candidates and will receive the largest portion of the scholarship funds.

The Brothers of Beta Phi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., President Brother Shed Dawson, and the Alphabettes express their sincere congratulations to the 2014 Debutantes and their parents/ guardians.
