AASU’s Emerging Young Leaders Celebrate National Women’s History Month

Sigma Tau Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is busy planning activities for their Emerging Young Leaders (EYL) at Bartlett Middle School. Each month members of Sigma Tau Chapter conduct activities / workshops with the young ladies. On Wednesday, March 28, 2012, the young ladies and members of the sorority held a session celebrating National Women’s History Month. This month was to showcase women in the workplace.

During this session, Sigma Tau presented to the young ladies Attorney Falen O. Cox and Mrs. Melinda P. Miller. Attorney Cox is an Assistant Public Defender working with the Eastern Judicial Circuit. She presented important information to the young ladies. Attorney Cox was impressed with the responses of the young ladies. They hope to meet and have another session during next school year. Mrs. Miller is a Social Worker for the Savannah- Chatham County School System. Bartlett Middle School is one of the schools that she serves. Mrs. Middle stressed to them the importance of attending school regularly and staying away from trouble. She presented the services of a school social worker also. To end her presentation, Mrs. Miller presented a skit whereas a couple of students participated. After the skit, they discussed ways that conflict could have been avoided.

The EYLs will meet again on April 25, 2012. They will observe Earth Day by participating in an Environmental Stewardship Project. Mrs. Pamela West, Asst. Principal of Bartlett Middle School, attended this session.
