The Tyb eeMLK Committee presented the 6th Annual TybeeMLK Parade and Human Rights Celebration last Saturday, January 12, 2019.
The parade began at Tybee Island’s Walter Parker Pier at the 14th Street Parking Lot and proceeded down Main Street to the Old School Cafeteria in the YMCA Complex, where the Human Rights Celebration was held.
The Parade Grand Marshal was Dr. Ann Levett, Superintendent of Savannah Chatham County Public Schools. Rev. June Johnson, Vicar of All Saints Episcopal Church served as Mistress of Ceremonies for the Human Rights Program. Salad Washington from Masjid Jihad and Kate Bossler from Mickve Israel delivered the welcome.
The 2018 Maajid Faheem Ali High School Scholars Camilla Burg and Ann Nguyen, both from Islands High School, read their award winning essays to the audience. A special presentation to Tybee Island Maritime Academy was presented by Richard Shinhoster to Principal Patrick Rossiter. Tybee Mayor Jason Buelterman presented James Eldo Hartz with the TybeeMLK Dreamer Humanitarian Award. Shawn Bulloch, a student at Bartlett STEM Academy introduced the Grand Marshal/ Keynote speaker, Dr Ann Levett.
Dr. Levett was honored to be a part of a program which acknowledges the youth as our future. Songtress Kim Polote rendered several selections including leading the audience singing Lift Every Voice and Sing which concluded the program.
